THE VOCABULARY, EXPLAINED
Looksmaxxing Scale: PSL, Tiers and Terms
The looksmaxxing scale is the shared vocabulary for rating facial aesthetics: a 0 to 8 PSL score, centred on about 4, and a ladder of tier names such as Sub5, LTN, MTN, HTN, Chadlite and Chad. This page explains every term and shows how to measure where you sit, free.

The looksmaxxing scale in one picture
Most of the terms people use on looksmaxxing forums are labels for ranges on one line from 0 to 8. The line is centred on the middle of the population, so most people sit between 3.5 and 5, and each step up is rarer.

How to use the looksmaxxing scale on yourself
- 1
Learn the vocabulary
Read the glossary below once. Sub5, LTN, MTN, HTN, Chadlite and Chad are all just labels for ranges on the same 0 to 8 line.
- 2
Measure instead of guessing
Run a front-facing photo through the free tool. It returns a score, a tier and the 16 measurements behind them.
- 3
Find the matching term
Look up your number in the glossary table to see which community label it corresponds to.
- 4
Focus on the lowest dimension
The weakest of the five dimension scores tells you what is holding the number down, and often it is the photo rather than the face.
What the looksmaxxing scale leaves out
The scale rates facial structure in a photograph. It does not capture expression, grooming, style, voice or the way a person carries themselves, which shape how attractive someone seems in real life far more than a few millimetres of proportion. It is also a convention, not a measurement from a study, and different communities use slightly different cut-offs.
- Use the scale to understand what is being measured, not to judge yourself.
- Trust ranges over single numbers: take two or three photos and compare.
- Read the dimensions, not just the tier. The lowest one is the most useful.
